@ns: yes, it is dark, literally and figuratively. the lyrical excerpt is also from a very dark song (and album).
@berber: you can say that, sure. the beauty of it is that you can see as much--or as little--as you want to.
@gaia: these lead away from the café at the end of the universe, your last chance to grab a bite before hitting the long road ahead.
for the rest of the readers, this was taken at griffith observatory, and yes, that's the name of the café, which is below the main grounds. the illuminated steps, to me, 'lead' the eye up, and being on a hill, there's no sense of being in a metropolis such as los angeles. all you see from here is just sky: infinite, eternal, dark, empty. relatively speaking.
i like the fact that you see the stairs as *going up* :) and the sky from there is gorgeous ~ turn away from the flashy (yet fascinating) city lights and discover an ocean of sparkling diamonds. it's not *empty*: it's filled with beauty :)
beautiful it is. they may be (kelvin) hot, but admirable only from a distance; cold, practically icy. it's a combination that's mind warping if you give in to it.
i've noticed that your collection of photos have a certain detachment with the human world, in that most of your subjects are inanimate, even the people in your photos are made into set pieces, without personality and, noticeably, without passion one way or another (no smiles, frowns, grimaces...) i wonder if that's a choice or that you're uncomfortable with humans in general

it's a picture of some stairs...

oh, it's not just *some stairs*... they're special... they lead to the end of the universe...
way to dismiss the entire context of the situation, berber, it must be exhilarating to be born without the ability to distinguish art and reality
